The Executive Committee of the World Forum for Local Economic Development has unanimously approved the candidacy of Córdoba, Argentina, to host the 5th edition of this global event

The candidacy of the Municipality of Córdoba, the Agency for the Strategic Development of the City (ADEC) and the Provincial Government, with the support of the national government, to host the V World Forum on Local Economic Development was officially presented by Mr. Ramón Mestre, the mayor of Córdoba and president of the Agency for the Strategic Development of the City (ADEC) and Mercociudades of Seville on the occasion of an international meeting on local economic development, held from May 17 to 18.

The Mayor of Seville, Mr. Juan Espadas, representing the Andalusian Fund of Municipalities for International Solidarity (FAMSI) and as the city that hosted the meeting of the Executive Commission, had the pleasure of transmitting the decision of the Committee to the Mayor of Córdoba. meeting at the Andalusian Agency for International Development Cooperation.

Mr. Espadas congratulated the selection of Córdoba to host the 5th edition of the World Forum on Local Economic Development (LED); In 2011, the city of Seville hosted the first edition of the Forum, a celebration that has become a key event to promote the local implementation of the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs. In fact, the achievement of the 2030 Agenda depends, to a large extent, on the commitment of governments and local government networks.

The Executive Committee meeting took place after a three-day review of initiatives carried out since the first edition of the Forum. After these three days of work, several processes are beginning: a process of permanent knowledge construction, which will be reinforced in the Forum; an international agenda on the five continents that will include thematic regional meetings; and the reinforcement of international alliances to expand and allow appropriation of the process.

More than 80 international delegates participated in the brainstorming sessions, including members of the standing committee and their partners: United Nations Development Program (UNDP), International Labor Organization (ILO), United Cities and Local Governments ( UCLG), Organization of the United Regions (ORU – FOGAR), Government of Cape Verde, Municipality and Metropolitan City of Turin, World Fund for the Development of Cities (FMDV) and Andalusian Fund of Municipalities for International Solidarity (FAMSI).

The next edition of this biennial event, which is scheduled for September 2019, is expected to further advance the dialogue and exchange of perspectives on the local economic development approach as a vehicle to localize the Sustainable Development Goals and achieve an inclusive approach and sustainable.
