The fourth edition of the  Regional Forum of Local Economic Development for Latin America and the Caribbean  will be on  Monday, August 26, Tuesday, 27, and Wednesday, August 28  in Montevideo.

The activities will begin on Monday the 26th with a show by the  Montevideo Philharmonic Orchestra  (by invitation) at the  Solís theater , while they will continue with access to the general public (by registering in advance in  this form ) on Tuesday the 27th and Wednesday the 28th, at the Municipality Conferences Center (Av. 18 de Julio 1360, 1 and a half floor). In addition, they can be followed via streaming on  TV Ciudad  both days.

This Forum is made up of  11 exhibition tables and 2 exchange workshops , led by experts. More than 200 people are expected to participate, including representatives of international, national and local organizations; of subnational governments and city networks; from companies, institutions and other private entities; of research centers in the region and development agents; from academia and social organizations.

Enrique Iglesias, former President of the IDB, the Central Bank and former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uruguay; Paco Toajas, from the Provincial Council of Seville (Spain) and Vice President of FAMSI; Sara Valdes, from the Global Alliance for Care; Alfonso Fernández de Castro, representative of UNDP Uruguay; Marcelo Abdala from PIT – CNT Uruguay; Diego O’Neill, president of the Federation of Business Chambers of Uruguay; Augusto Costa, Minister of Production, Science and Technological Innovation of the Province of Buenos Aires (Argentina); and Magdalena Furtado, UN Women representative for Argentina and Uruguay, are among the more than 50 featured exhibitors at the Forum.

Representatives from CAF, IDB, UCCI, ICLEI, ILO, ECLAC, IOM, UN Women, Udelar, OPP, ANDE, MIEM, Ministry of Environment and Cooperatives of the Americas, as well as departmental authorities of the country, including Montevideo, Canelones and Saint Joseph.

This event has the support of the IDB, CAF, ECLAC, IOM and UN Women; and it is possible thanks to the Andalusian Fund of Municipalities for International Solidarity (FAMSI); United Nations Development Program (UNDP); United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG); International Labor Organization (ILO); from ORU – Fogar; from the World Fund for the Development of Cities (FMDV); and the Mercociudades network.

The objective of the Forum is  to promote multi-stakeholder collaboration , for the construction of  comprehensive local economic development policies  in the region.

Under the axis  Territorial alliances and challenges in the economic model of local development in Latin America and the Caribbean , local development, the environment, global agendas, the  Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) , the world of work, human mobility, Gender equality, innovation , knowledge production, alliances and cooperation will be some of the topics worked on.

Montevideo has been chosen to host this great event due to the recognition and prestige it holds worldwide, for its policies linked to human, economic, local and sustainable development, as well as its international action with more than 30 years of experience.

At the same time, it coincides with the  anniversary of its 300 years , so a multitude of proposals are offered to celebrate its history and think about its future.

The Regional Forum will be the prelude to the  World Forum on Local Economic Development in Seville  (Spain), in April 2025.
