Webinar “Connecting ideas, experiences and challenges: towards the Regional Forum for Local Economic Development for Latin America and the Caribbean”

On Wednesday, July 3, this activity took place virtually, bringing together representatives of the  United Nations Development Program (UNDP) , the  Andalusian Fund of Municipalities for International Solidarity (FAMSI)United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG ) , the  International Labor Organization (ILO)  and  Mercociudades , among others, to exchange on priorities and challenges of local economic development, at a global and regional level.

It was a preparatory meeting for the  4th Regional Forum for Local Economic Development , which will be in Montevideo on  Monday 26th, Tuesday 27th and Wednesday 28th of August.

The activities will take place in the Conference Center of the Municipality’s headquarters building and will be  open to the public , upon registration by completing  this form . They can also be followed via streaming on  TV Ciudad .

The director of the International Relations and Cooperation Division of the commune, Fabiana Goyeneche, was in charge of moderating the meeting while Mayor Zunino presented and highlighted the main characteristics of the event.

The leader announced that the central objective of the Regional Forum will be  to promote multi-stakeholder collaboration, for the construction of comprehensive local economic development policies in the region .

Under the axis  “Territorial alliances and challenges in the economic model of local development in Latin America and the Caribbean” , local development, the environment, global agendas, the  Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) , the world of work, mobility human rights, gender equality, innovation, knowledge production, alliances and cooperation will be some of the themes worked on during its implementation.

Zunino also reported that the participation of international, national and local organizations is expected; city ​​networks; companies; research centers, academia and social organizations, among others.

Attendees will present and take part in panels and work tables to exchange experiences, good practices and reflect on local development, from an inclusive, sustainable and equitable perspective.

The Regional Forum is possible thanks to the support of FAMSI; UNDP; UCLG; ILO; ORU – Fogar; and the World Fund for the Development of Cities (FMDV).

In turn, it will function as a prelude to the  World Forum on Local Economic Development , which will take place from April 1 to 4, 2025 in Seville, Spain.
