The International Healthy Cities Movement presented the 4th World Forum on Local Economic Development at a summit in Mindelo, Cape Verde. The Forum was recognized as an occasion to advance the debate on Local Economic Development (LED) and as a tool to promote the premise of the Healthy City Movement.

At the presentation, there were interventions by the Minister of Health and Social Security and the Minister of Sports of Cape Verde, heads of Chambers of Commerce, a representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) and Prof.Doutor Constantino Sakelarides of Portugal was the speaker key. The president of the national organizing committee of the IVth World LED Forum recognized the relevance of the event in promoting socioeconomic well-being and territorial cohesion.

The Forum will take place from October 17 to 20 in the capital city of Praia, Cape Verde. It aims to bring together participants from around the world to discuss LED and focuses on designing policies and incentive programs that are suitable for investment and services in the urban context.

As part of a continuous dialogue process, it will be a space for local governments to exchange their experiences and learnings on economic and territorial development as strategic approaches for localizing and promoting the SDGs. Since SDG no. Objective #3 has to do with health and well-being, connecting the Healthy City Summit with the 2030 Agenda is not only a natural action, but a necessary one. In this sense, the Forum will represent a great opportunity to promote health as one of the components of urban and sustainable development in Cape Verde and the world.
